Hot water repairs and replacements across Redcliffe and Brisbane Northside.
No hot water, temperature problems, leaks or a tripping circuit do not always mean the whole unit must be replaced. Maxwell can assess the plumbing and electrical causes, repair suitable faults and recommend replacement when the system is unsafe, uneconomical or at the end of its service life.
What our plumber completes
- Isolates the water supply and disconnects the old unit.
- Removes the old system and positions the replacement.
- Connects hot and cold water pipework, valves and drainage.
- Checks temperature-control requirements and installs compliant components where required.
- Fills, tests and commissions the plumbing installation and completes required plumbing notification.
What our electrician completes
- Safely isolates and disconnects the electrical supply.
- Checks the hot-water circuit, cable, protection and switchboard suitability.
- Installs or upgrades the local isolating switch and safety-switch protection where required.
- Reconnects the replacement unit and completes electrical testing.
- Provides the required electrical safety documentation for completed electrical work.
Current isolation and safety-switch requirements.
When replacement work involves electrical installation work, the electrician checks the installation against Queensland electrical safety requirements and the current Wiring Rules.
What homeowners should know
Current Wiring Rules require a fixed-wired water heater to have an independent, lockable isolating switch adjacent to—but not mounted on—the unit. The electrician also checks whether the hot-water circuit has suitable residual-current-device (RCD), commonly called safety-switch, protection and installs or upgrades protection where the rules require it. Queensland electrical contractors have also been prohibited from installing Type AC RCDs since 30 April 2023; the protective device must be suitable for the connected equipment. Requirements can vary with the existing circuit and the replacement system, so our electrician confirms the exact work needed before reconnection. Hot water repair and replacement FAQs.
Can Maxwell repair my hot water system?
Yes. We assess hot water faults across Redcliffe and Brisbane Northside and repair suitable plumbing or electrical problems. If replacement is the safer or more economical option, we explain why and provide a clear scope before work proceeds.
Do I always need both a plumber and an electrician?
An electric hot water replacement commonly requires both trades: the plumber handles the water, valves and drainage, while the electrician handles safe disconnection, circuit requirements, reconnection and testing. The exact scope depends on the system and existing installation.
Does my existing hot water circuit need a safety switch?
The electrician checks the circuit against the current rules and the requirements of the replacement unit. If protection is missing, unsuitable or must be upgraded as part of the work, that requirement is explained before reconnection.
Can Maxwell remove the old unit?
Yes. Removal of the old hot water unit can be included in the quoted replacement scope, subject to access and site conditions.
